Among the graduates this month is Kris® who will receive his MBA in Information Technology Service Management and in Project Management. On paper and in person, Kris® stands out and once you meet him, it is clearly evident why.

Kris® originates from the western coast of India in the state of Goa, about an overnight journey by train from Mumbai. Before ever attending the University of Dallas, Kris® started to invest in his future. Six years ago he describes there was a “hunger for establishing identity.” Often, he says, much of what a person remembers is an email and he set out to make his distinct by tradmarking his name. Assuredly, not many will forget seeing an email from him when they see ® following his name.

Kris® chose to attend UD because of the pre-MBA program, but he decided to stay to earn his MBA because it offered exactly what he wanted to study and the “faculty was really impressive, especially Dr. Sue Conger.”

Dr. Conger soon became one of faculty members Kris® is closest too. She introduced Kris® to Thanksgiving and especially the Turkey Trot, a 5K run in Dallas. It is a cherished memory “because for a faculty person to come out of their professional realm and extend that opportunity for social interaction in the US and during Thanksgiving, that was really kind and touching.” For nearly one and a half years, Kris® also worked with Dr. Conger as her GA. He attributes his time with her as key in improving his “level of thinking” and it is what gave him “a different perspective altogether in terms of academic pursuit.”

Moreover because of the campus itself, Kris® has also had the opportunity to interact with liberal arts students and faculty members. He can speak nine languages, which helps him to socialize with students and faculty who originate from all over the world. Being able to interact with the academics on campus “is really enriching” and he believes if “you go to a normal business school, you won’t get it. So interacting with all of the faculty has given me a better understanding that the roots of UD are really deep and strong.”

From the Student Advisory Board to SIE, Kris® is active on campus. In his third and last term with SIE, he was elected its president. Working with Dr. Mike Cosgrove, the SIE faculty advisor, Kris® and SIE are moving to make the “organization stronger and take it forward in terms of helping the students professionally network and connect to all of those alumni who have been active members of SIE since 1973.” As a member of SIE, he has “been able to give a considerable contribution.”

Following graduation, Kris® plans on pursuing his PhD in Information Technology Service Management at the University of Southern Queensland where he will be able to learn from faculty that he already knows through his work here.
UD Admissions Officehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11863115237578323694noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1460938027748301828.post-77153027593038970752011-11-07T16:44:00.000-06:002011-11-07T16:44:08.420-06:00Welcome to UD!

Professor Bruce Evans, professor of management in the College of
Business, is a native New Yorker who has spent time living in various
parts of the East Coast. His uncle was a professor at Harvard and his
sister taught at Gallaudet University. “It got me to wonder if I didn’t
belong in education.”

Prior to joining the faculty at UD, he worked as a re-insurance
underwriter at CIGNA which led to his Vice President of Reinsurance
position at Transport Insurance.

He came to the University of Dallas when the Graduate School of
Management was newly forming, and has served the University longer than
any other faculty colleague. “I heard that an MBA program had just been
launched.”

The favorite part of teaching at UD for Evans is the Capstone
Experience, which he helped to create. Launched in 1973, theCapstone is
the final course for graduate students. It was formed after a meeting
with various professors from universities with leading business schools
such as Stanford, Harvard, and Tulane. Those faculty members strongly
endorse inactive case study books. From there, Evans and his colleagues
took a cue to instead involve actual chief executives who pose
significant strategic problems for the graduating students to master.

“Management is an art. We had to find something practical,” he says.

Evans is currently in his 148th Capstone course. “The results from the
clients are superb. It’s been great for everybody.” He says that he is
proud and privileged to have guided MBA students in their learning
experiences.

In addition to teaching, Evans is a musician on the side. He has played
the clarinet since he was eight years old. His band, “Sound Judgment,”
has been together for decades, and has played at the President’s
Reception, Cotillion Ball, and Alumni Reunion weekend. “It’s just plain
fun. I’m comfortable.”

Evans is also being interviewed on 1160 AM every Wednesday morning at
7:40 a.m. He discusses the College of Business graduate school and the
Capstone Experience.

“I’m doing what I want to do.”
UD Admissions Officehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11863115237578323694noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1460938027748301828.post-64951755480540240192011-10-05T14:47:00.000-05:002011-10-05T14:47:27.028-05:00As if you needed another reason to go to UD...

Carla Rosenberg is a successful businesswoman in the sports and
entertainment industry. As Senior Vice President for Professional
Sports & Entertainment at Zelo Public Relations, she handles client
acquisitions, branding strategies and media management for professional
athletes. Prior to that role, she worked in executive roles for the
Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars and SCA Promotions. But, before all that,
she got her start at the University of Dallas MBA program.

What is your fondest memory of the University of Dallas?
My concentration was Sports & Entertainment, so the industry
immersion trip to New York City where we got to visit Madison Square
Garden, the U.S.T.A National Tennis Center & the NFL and NBA
executive offices. Those memories and experiences will last a lifetime!

How has the University of Dallas shaped the person you are today?
I am more prepared to deal with others on group projects and meetings.
Also, I am more confident in my ability to handle presentations and
spreadsheets.

What makes the University of Dallas special?
UD offers flexible scheduling of courses for students to maintain a
work/life balance. There are also industry immersion programs that
provide unique opportunities and exposure for students.

Who from the University of Dallas most impacted your life? How?
Dr. Scott Wysong – he has always been so supportive and encouraged me to
apply for the program. In addition, he was/is always responsive and
helpful in finding a solution when I had a question about anything
school related. He always and continues to provide opportunities to
network with other students that have similar interests and career
goals. He does a great job of keeping me plugged in.

I attended a college fair in Lima, Peru on Saturday, 8/13. Over 600 people attended the 2 hour event. They all came seeking information on MBA programs. The attendees were impressed with the MBA program at UD and were surprised that such a dynamic program was so inexpensive, truly a great value.

Dr. Fernando Arellano attended the fair with me. A Limeño and himself a former international student, Dr. Arellano was able to give the prospective MBA scholars a detailed description of what it would be like traveling to Dallas to study at the University of Dallas (see photo). He is just one example of how UD professors reach out to their students.

I was impressed with Lima. The Peruvian people are very welcoming of strangers, going out of their way in making you feel at home. For those of you who don’t know, Peruvian cuisine has the reputation of being the best in South America, a reputation that is well deserved!

Once the capital of the Spanish colonial empire, Lima is a cosmopolitan city and bustling with energy. It has a mild climate, with the Pacific Ocean at it's forefront and the mighty Andes Mountains at its back. I uploaded a picture from the airplane of the steep "andino" peaks. I can see why Hollywood set an Indiana Jones movie in these mountains!

I’ll return to Dallas tomorrow. I hope to continue to have contact with the many prospective MBA students that I had the pleasure of meeting in Lima. Hopefully, I’ll be able to visit again soon.
Rogerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08737188384803256728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1460938027748301828.post-76801547120072707502011-08-13T23:32:00.008-05:002011-08-22T15:01:31.152-05:00Busy Bogota

On Thursday I attended a VERY busy college fair in Bogota, Colombia. In fact, it was so busy that I didn't get a chance to take any pictures of the fair! I was able to get just a couple of pictures of people rushing home from work and a view of the city from my hotel room.

I truly loved this city. Comprising over 8 million people in the metropolitan area, Bogota sits over 8,000 feet above sea level. Occupying a high mountain savannah, the air is pretty thin up here. Tourists should definitely take it slow because of the altitude.

Bogotanos are extremely hard working and ambitious by nature. Everyone that I met was extremely gracious and friendly. The attendees at the college fair were no exception. I spoke to many impressive students who were anxious to start their MBA and were pleased with what they learned about the programs at the University of Dallas.

I can't wait to continue my conversations with them once I return to the office. If you have friends or family in Bogota who want to upgrade their career competitiveness with an MBA, please have them contact me!
